Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment

At Insight Northwest Recovery, we offer Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment to those looking to regain control of their lives to start living a life they deserve – free of substance dependence and addiction.

Co-occurring disorders, also known as dual-diagnosis or comorbidity, are when an individual is experiencing a mental health condition or disorder in addition to their existing substance use disorder. The presence of two of these illnesses can create a complex set of symptoms and challenges that can make it increasingly difficult for an individual to function in a healthy or productive way.

Among adults with a substance use disorder in the past year, approximately 45% also had a co-occurring mental illness. While this number is incredibly high, it’s assumed that it is most likely higher, as so many people being treated for their conditions aren’t receiving the proper diagnosis.

We understand that mental health and substance Use Disorder are deeply connected.

At Insight Northwest Recovery, we believe this understanding is the key to providing effective drug and alcohol treatment. More often than not, these mental health conditions are deeply intertwined. Each person that walks through the doors at Insight Northwest Recovery will enter into treatment programs that factor in the whole individual – your history, mental health conditions, drug or alcohol dependence, and most importantly, your goals for your future and your health. The change we are capable of creating in our lives is amazing with the support of the proper resources.

Our outpatient treatment center provides various levels of care that will meet your needs. We have a highly experienced and compassionate treatment team that is here to help you take the next step on your road to recovery from alcohol or drug abuse. Mental Illness and Substance Addiction

Struggling with alcohol or drug addiction is one of the most difficult, damaging and overwhelming conditions in life. With addiction comes hardship, conflict, devastation and so much loss. It can lead a person down a path they never intended to go, landing in a life that is unfamiliar to them – often a life void of joy, success or healthy relationships. However, in a vast majority of addiction situations, there is more going on beyond the substance abuse struggle.

Living with a mental illness or substance abuse issue individually can be incredibly difficult and all-consuming. These illnesses co-occurring can lead you to struggle in your professional life, personal life and simply in your ability to function in this world. If you or someone you love is struggling with substance abuse or addiction and other complex and concerning mental health symptoms, we are here to help guide you through treatment for co-occurring disorders using evidence based practices that will help you regain control of your life.

Treatment for Co-occurring Disorders in Eugene

Our Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment Program combines the approaches of traditional addiction treatment and mental health treatment to address the connection between mental health conditions and substance use disorders. At Insight Northwest Recovery, we offer teen treatment and treatment for young adults up to the age of 25. Using evidence based practices, we provide comprehensive and integrated treatment for individuals with mental health disorders and co-occurring substance use disorder.

Our treatment programs utilize the following levels of care:

1 - Intensive Day Treatment (PHP)

To start the outpatient treatment journey, you'll begin with Intensive Day Treatment, commonly referred to as PHP or Partial Hospitalization programs. This program allows you to engage in daily, structured treatment that thoughtfully blends individual therapy, group therapy and education, as well as activity-based therapies. In this warm and supportive environment, you'll attend sessions for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, over a 4 week period, fostering personal growth and healing.

2 - Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

Upon completing PHP, you will typically transition to the next phase of treatment, known as Intensive Outpatient Programs or IOP. While slightly less intensive than Partial Hospitalization programs, IOP still provides many of the same valuable benefits to support your journey. Similar to PHP, you'll participate in group education and counseling sessions, as well as engaging in activity-based therapies tailored to your treatment plan. The IOP program offers 3-hour group counseling sessions, held 3 times a week for a duration of 3 months, fostering a sense of connection and continued growth.

3 - Outpatient Treatment

After successfully completing one or more of our intensive outpatient programs, you'll gently transition to the Standard Outpatient Treatment phase. This stage maintains the warmth and compassion of our earlier programs by offering group education and counseling sessions. However, in contrast to PHP or IOP, the sessions are shorter and held less frequently to accommodate your progress. During this part of your journey, you'll attend 3-hour group counseling sessions once a week for a period of 3 months, providing you with continued support and encouragement.

4 - After Care

Our heartfelt mission in the After Care Program is to guide you towards lasting recovery. As you complete steps 1-3 of our outpatient care, you'll seamlessly transition into our aftercare program, designed to help you effectively manage your addiction(s) for the long haul. This supportive program offers one-hour group counseling sessions once a week, fostering ongoing connection and encouragement for an entire year, as you continue to thrive on your path to wellness.

Our clients typically begin the outpatient treatment process after completing inpatient residential treatment or medical detox. We want you to be set up for success when you begin your outpatient treatment journey and are here to answer any of your questions to find out if you are ready to begin your recovery journey. Give us a call and one of our client care coordinators will guide you through the process and provide you with the clarity you need to feel confident and ready to take this incredibly important step towards recovery.

Treating Mental Health Conditions and Substance Use Disorders

Our approach when treating mental health disorders and substance use disorders utilizes a comprehensive and individualized approach, as every one of our client's needs and circumstances can vary greatly and are unique to them. Through all of our outpatient programs, we provide care for both your mental health and substance use challenges. Utilizing our integrated treatment, we hope to address the underlying causes of each condition, improving your overall wellbeing and recovery outcome.

With that being said, some of the most common mental health conditions that we treat are:

  • Substance Use Disorders

  • Individuals with Co-occurring Disorders

  • Anxiety Disorders

  • Depression

  • Bipolar Disorder

  • Personality Disorders

When dealing with any of the mental health disorders listed above, we understand how challenging it can be to take the first step in your recovery. Struggling with substance abuse can be isolating enough, but when dealing with a mental disorder and substance use – we want you to know you are not alone and recovery is possible. We are here to walk alongside you as you begin Substance Use Disorder SUD Treatment and your healing journey.

What is Integrated Treatment?

Integrated Co-Occurring Disorder Drug and Alcohol Treatment involves treating the whole individual, including both mental health treatment as well as treating substance use disorders. We understand that every client that walks through our doors comes to us with a different story, unique experiences and perspectives and we work to tailor our approaches and treatment modalities to best suit your needs.

For some clients, that may mean additional individual or relational counseling, psychiatric medication management or psychological testing and evaluations. While we do not offer psychiatric medication management or psychological testing at our treatment facility, we partner with Insight Northwest Counseling to provide integrated mental health treatment to support your recovery journey. Your case manager will help create a tailored treatment plan that combines outpatient treatment and additional resources to support your needs and goals for recovery.

Integrated treatment at Insight Northwest Recovery typically involves a combination of the following evidence based practices:

Behavioral Therapy

In individual and group therapy settings, we utilize various methods of talk therapy, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI), to name a few. These approaches will help you understand your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and help you develop healthier coping strategies that you can implement in your recovery journey.

Group Therapy

Along with learning how to understand yourself, group therapy sessions can also provide you with a sense of community, shared understanding, and knowing you are not alone facing the challenges of addiction. Our groups offer valuable emotional support and encouragement along with accountability when working towards long-term recovery.

Peer Support and Family Support

We also understand how important it is to involve family members, or your close circle, in the treatment process. Your community and support network can help lift you up on your recovery journey. Through family therapy, we help to address the impact of mental health and substance use disorders on the entire family and work to improve communication, understanding, community outreach and on-going support.

Holistic Approaches

Along with traditional practices, we also encourage you to develop healthy habits that support you in your recovery journey. Some of these approaches may include mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and art therapy. We recognize how important it is to work on your mental health along with your spiritual, emotional and physical health.
