I believe therapy works best when it’s collaborative. I try to be frank and, when appropriate, a little irreverent. I don’t think therapy needs to take itself too seriously. My goal is to create a space that feels grounded and real.
Houston is home, and growing up around such a diverse city gave me a real appreciation for different perspectives and experiences. I also value my identity as a social worker. That comes through in how I work to help people navigate different systems in their lives, whether that’s healthcare, school or work, or family relationships.
My approach is practical and integrative. I use evidence-based methods but adapt based on what makes sense for each person. I’m also driven to keep learning and getting better at what I do. I value staying current with research and being thoughtful about how I work with clients. That includes making healthcare less stigmatizing and the process less confusing.
Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy gardening where I can. There’s something satisfying about the challenge of trying to optimize conditions for a living thing to thrive. It’s rewarding, though humbling at times too.
Professional Background
In my most recent position, I worked at a psychiatric hospital helping people and their families through some of the most overwhelming and vulnerable moments of their lives. It was a great learning experience, and I continue to carry those lessons with me.
