Sara Kestell

Professional Counseling Associate, CADC

I believe recovery begins with connection. My practice emphasizes establishing a trusting, supportive environment where clients can thoughtfully explore their experiences and circumstances, and collaboratively develop a clear, actionable plan to achieve their desired life.

Driven by a deep belief that recovery is possible for everyone, I dedicated my career to helping individuals navigate the complexities of addiction. My practice is rooted in the understanding that recovery begins with connection—a principle I’ve seen transform lives. I am passionate about guiding clients toward the freedom and clarity they need to build their desired life. My journey into counseling began with a personal transformation. Having navigated the challenges of addiction myself, I discovered firsthand the profound freedom that recovery offers.

Originally from Southern California, I feel most at home outdoors or at the beach. When I’m not in the office, you’ll likely find me experimenting with new cuisines in the kitchen, spending time with my husband and our dog, Lucy, or enjoying my favorite role: being an aunt to my amazing nieces and nephews.

My practice is rooted in a trauma-focused, strengths-based approach. I integrate evidence-based techniques—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Narrative Therapy—to help you reframe your story and develop actionable steps for change. I believe that the client is the expert on their own life. My role is to provide the supportive environment and clinical guidance you need to reclaim your agency and find lasting healing.

Professional Background

For the past several years, I have been working in the forensic setting, most recently in the Cooccurring Disorder Program in the Oregon Department of Corrections. While in California, I worked for an organization that contracted with the Department of State Hospitals to help those who were found to be Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity of their crimes. Previous to this, I worked at inpatient and outpatient recovery programs.
